Founded in 1995, the Instituto del Traductorado has navigated the evolving landscape of contemporary translation studies and practice, providing academic guidance attuned to the specific demands of each stage in the discipline’s historical development. Established at a moment when the field was consolidating its theoretical foundations—shaped by the legacy of the so-called ‘cultural turn’ and the increasing institutionalisation of translation studies—the Instituto del Traductorado initially responded to a paradigm in which questions of equivalence, textuality, and the translator’s agency were being vigorously re-examined.
From the late 1990s into the early 2000s, the rapid expansion of digital technologies began to transform professional practice. The advent of computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools, the growing use of translation memories, and the rise of localisation as a specialised domain required new forms of technical competence. The Instituto del Traductorado adapted accordingly, establishing an official degree programme (Traductorado Técnico-Científico en Lengua Inglesa) that integrated technological literacy within a flexible curriculum, while maintaining critical engagement with the epistemological implications of these tools.
The first decade of the twenty-first century witnessed the consolidation of globalisation as a structuring force in translation activity. Increasing cross-cultural exchange, the proliferation of multilingual content, and the emergence of new markets for audiovisual translation—particularly subtitling and dubbing—expanded the scope of the profession. In response, the Instituto del Traductorado broadened its academic provision to include these emergent modalities through a programme of webinars that complemented its core teaching in translation studies, situating them within a wider socio-cultural and economic framework.
From the 2010s onwards, the programme entered a phase characterised by heightened interdisciplinarity and the growing prominence of corpus-based approaches, sociological models of translation, and cognitive research into translator behaviour. At the same time, the expansion of online platforms and collaborative environments reconfigured traditional workflows, introducing new questions concerning authorship, ethics, and labour conditions. The Institute’s provision evolved accordingly, with the creation of a virtual campus equipped with tools for collaborative work and critical reflexivity.
The 2020s have witnessed the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence and neural machine translation, rendering traditional, fixed curricula increasingly inadequate to the evolving competencies demanded by the profession. Degree structures such as the Traductorado Técnico-Científico en Lengua Inglesa, governed by relatively inflexible regulatory frameworks, have consequently lost their relevance in the face of increasingly hybrid human–machine environments and the widespread availability of high-quality automatic translation.
Accordingly, in 2026 the Instituto del Traductorado opted to move away from a formal degree pathway in favour of more modular and adaptive forms of academic provision, notably translation-skills courses (TSE) and translation-oriented webinars. This shift enables the more immediate integration of emerging technologies, methodologies, and professional practices, while also accommodating the needs of a more diverse student body, including working professionals seeking targeted upskilling.
Within this context, the decision to discontinue the official degree programme should be understood not as a withdrawal from the discipline, but as a strategic reconfiguration of its pedagogical model to favour pedagogical agility and responsiveness over the relative stability and rigidity of conventional degree programmes.
Across these successive phases, the Instituto del Traductorado has maintained a commitment to aligning its pedagogical and research priorities with the changing contours of the discipline, thereby ensuring its continued relevance within an evolving global context.

El examen de ingreso University TSE International se rinde online al completar el curso de ingreso y habilita para dar inicio a la carrera oficial.

El TSE International for Individual Learners es un curso personalizado e individual para alumnos mayores de 18 años que desean aprender o consolidar su nivel de inglés desde la casa o el trabajo. El curso consta de 30 módulos online desde principiante a avanzado. El alumno es evaluado al inicio del curso y ubicado en el módulo que le corresponde según su nivel.
El TSE International for Group Learners es un curso de inglés presencial de abril a noviembre para alumnos mayores de 18 años que desean aprender o mejorar su nivel de inglés en grupos. Los cursos abarcan desde el nivel A (principiante) del Marco de Referencia para Lenguas de la Comunidad Europea hasta el nivel C (avanzado).
El TSE International for Schools es un examen gratuito que la Asociación Argentina de Traductores Técnico-Científicos (AATT) ofrece a las escuelas primarias y secundarias. Se rinde en los colegios y evalúa a los egresantes de cada nivel permitiendo una auditoría imparcial y confiable del Área Inglés. La AATT expide un Parte de Situación para el colegio y certificados de logros para los alumnos.
El University TSE International es el curso y examen de ingreso al Traductorado. Está destinado a postulantes con nivel de inglés intermedio/avanzado. Consta de actividades de práctica en tres áreas de competencia lingüística: gramática, resumen y lecto-comprensión, y traducción básica EN < > ES. Al completar satisfactoriamente la tercera área de competencia, se rinde el University TSE International.
